Gathesa: Innovative Wine Packaging Design

A Unique Blend of Western Inspiration and Personal Connection

Centurion Family Vineyards combines family heritage and Western aesthetics to create Gathesa, a wine packaging design that captures the essence of their horse farm and vineyard.

Centurion Family Vineyards, a small family-owned winery, sought to develop a boutique wine label that would reflect their love for their ranch and their cowboy-at-heart personality. Inspired by their sons' names - Gabriel, Theodore, and Samuel - they coined the name Gathesa. CF Napa Brand Design, led by Creative Principal David Schuemann and Art Director Antonio Rivera, leveraged this personal connection to family and the Western theme to create a truly unique and captivating wine packaging design.

The standout feature of the Gathesa design is the custom monogram created from the initials of the winery owners' sons. This monogram is surrounded by an elaborate Western-inspired, retro-modern label design. The label itself is embossed, reminiscent of a decorative horse saddle, adding a tactile and luxurious feel to the overall packaging. To further enhance the Western theme, the label incorporates a laser die-cut, resembling an ear notch used on cattle ranches.

The realization of the Gathesa design involved a combination of traditional and modern techniques. Digital printing was utilized for this short-run boutique winery, allowing for flexibility and customization. The label was then embellished with a tactile varnish and embossing, giving it a rich textural feel akin to an embossed leather saddle. The final touch was the monogram, designed to resemble a cattle brand, which was laser die-cut through the label, revealing the bottle behind.

The Gathesa wine packaging design measures 75mm x 75mm x 310mm, providing a compact yet visually striking presentation for the wine bottles.

Gathesa has garnered recognition in the design industry, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in Packaging Design in 2019. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skill, contributing to improvements in quality of life. Gathesa's innovative blend of personal connection, Western inspiration, and attention to detail truly sets it apart in the world of wine packaging design.
